Did you know that bees can help transform families and a whole community?

Beekeeping is a sustainable, cost-effective, and ecologically friendly way for the community to generate an income and a food source, and to build and grow a business.

There is a significant opportunity to increase honey production in Kenya. Demand for honey exceeds supply. Kenya is reported to produce only 14.6% of its potential honey production levels. This can be linked to a lack of investment, training and knowledge.

This project gave the opportunity to teach this valuable skill to 12 individuals. This will increase honey production in the community and will do so sustainably, using local beekeeping practices and knowledge.

The community members who we invited to take part in this course received training in basic beekeeping skills and were provided with a full set of locally sourced essential beekeeping equipment.

For some individuals on the course, this was the first qualification they had ever received!

Included in the course was also instruction on how to make lip balms, creams and candles. Once the participants start to harvest honey, they will be able to make and sell these products, as well as the honey, to build a business.
